Rules for Being a Real Sports Fan
If you're a sports fan, then you know that some rules must be followed. In this article, we will be discussing the ten rules of being a true sports fan.
1. You must support the team from your hometown.
You have been a fan of your hometown team since you were a kid. You have cheered them on through the good times and the bad. You have never wavered in your support, no matter what.
But what happens when you move away for further education or work reasons? Are you allowed to change your allegiance to the team in that area?
The answer is no. You must stick with your hometown team, even if they are not doing well. Your loyalty is to them and them alone.
2. You stick with the team through the good times and the bad.
You are a true sports fan because you stick with your team through the good times and the bad. When the team is winning, you are there to cheer them on. And when they are losing, you are there to support them. You never give up on your team, no matter what.
This loyalty is what sets true sports fans apart from the casual observer. When things are tough, you are the one who sticks by your team.
3. If you move to another city, you must stay loyal.
You are still a fan of your team, and you are still entitled to your opinions, but you cannot start supporting the team in that area. You must remain loyal to your team through the good times and the bad.
4. You’re out of luck if your favorite player is traded away/signs elsewhere as a free agent.
This rule is perhaps the most important rule of all. If your favorite player is traded away or signs with another team as a free agent, you cannot start supporting his or her new team. You must stick with your team through thick and thin. If you can't do that, then you're not really a fan at all.
5. If your franchise moves to another city, you’ll have to switch.
If you're a sports fan, you probably have a team that you support unconditionally. But what happens if that team moves to another city? Are you still allowed to call yourself a fan? According to this rule, the answer is no.
Your team is the team from the area where you grew up. If they move to another city, you're allowed to start supporting the new team, but it's not going to be easy. You'll always have a place in your heart for your old team, and you'll never quite be able to forget them.
6. If a family member plays professionally for a team from another city, you are ok to support.
If one of your family members happens to play professionally for a team from another city, you are given a free pass to support them without feeling guilty. After all, blood is thicker than water, and you should be proud of your family member for achieving their dream.
7. You can't support all the teams from your city if there's more than one.
You might be tempted to support multiple teams from your city, but that's not allowed. If you live in a city with more than one team in a particular sport, you have to choose one and stick with them. You're a fan of the team, not the sport.
8. No jerseys with your name on them.
You might be the biggest fan of a certain team, but that doesn't mean you have to go out and buy a jersey with your name on the back. In fact, it's against the rules.
A true sports fan never personalized jerseys. It's a sign of disrespect to the team and its fans. If you want to show your support, buy a team jersey instead. It's much cheaper, and everyone will know who you're rooting for.
9. There is no justification whatsoever to be a fan of all the best teams.
If you can't pick one team and stick with them, then you're not a true sports fan. You're just a fair-weather fan who is only interested in the teams that are winning.
If you're a sports fan, then pick a team and stick with them. Support them through the good times and the bad. Show some loyalty and dedication. That's what being a true sports fan is all about.
So there you have it. Are you a true sports fan?
